ICC cricket world cup is known as the biggest cricketing tournament in world. But Indian Premier League (IPL) has beaten world cup, if you goes by an insurance figure. 

Cricketing fans around glob may not agree that IPL is bigger than world cup, but Indian cricket board (BCCI) certainly does not think so. BCCI’s insurance figure certainly says that. 

Indian Cricket Board who insured IPL-4 to cover event cancellation for Rs.740 crore, which is almost Rs 200 crore more than what it has been trying to seek for the world cup matches to be played in India. 

BCCI looking to insure tournament with event cancellation cover for Rs 740 crore which will include media rights, protection of sponsorship fees and other contingencies. Board also looking for another Rs 100 crore public liability policy which will cover spectators on match days. Rs.744 crore cover will cover 74 matches featuring 10 teams in IPL-4 during Apr 8 to May 22.  

But on the other hand for ICC Cricket World Cup, board has purchased special contingency policy for event cancellation for Rs. 130 crore from National Insurance Company. The policy will cover BCCI from financial liabilities arising from cancellation of matches. India will host 29 matches on 8 different venues which includes semi finals and final. 

Board is trying for another terrorism related cover of Rs. 400 to cover match cancellation though deal is yet to be finalize as insurance premium charges are high due to India and Sri Lanka are vulnerable to terror attacks. 

On the disparity between World Cup and IPL 4 board official said these are two completely different tournaments. World cup is 50 over game and IPL is 20 over tournament. Board also believes IPL is more competitive than World Cup as it includes all top players in the world and in world cup except 4 to 5 teams others lacks skill.  

IPL is different ball game all together with all glitz and glamour which has attracted the attention of the world. Where as world cup tournament lacks all of that official said. 

So the bottom line is though World Cup is the biggest tournament in world for cricket players, lovers but if you go by market conditions it says different story.
