Be Cautious while Selecting Health Insurance Plan

Posted on October 13, 2011 07:21 by MKJ

Selecting or Choosing a Plan for Health Insurance is very important and we can use this for future purposes. Read the following to make a decision of yours about selecting health insurance plan...

Now a days health insurance companies are making false proposals and use various marketing tactics to grab the customers. Most importantly they conceal most of the real facts about your plan. So before buying a health plan you should read you documents very carefully and don't sign anything you don't know. Ask you insurer in case you find any ambiguity in you plan or you find if you service provider is trying to conceal something from you. In other case this will bring lots of problems for you in future in shape of paying extra bills and not getting proper services. So beware and be cautious.

1. Your doctor should be included in your health plan.

Health insurance companies have networks including doctors and hospitals that have contracted with the companies to provide health care at low prices. So before buying a plan you should see if your doctor is included in you health plan network or not. You could suffer from a high deductible and co-pay amount when you visit a health care provider out-of-network. A co-pay is that money you pay which is not covered by your health insurance company.

2. Estimate your total out of pocket costs for the year.

Your total out of pocket costs for the year would include your payroll contributions with co-payments for your hospital visits and drugs, plus an annual deductible. For example, paying higher premiums and lower deductibles / low premiums and high deductibles, choose as you need. An insurance premium is fixed amount you pay as the health insurance coverage. If you are a part of an employer-provided insurance plan, your premium would be deducted from your paycheck. Health insurance premiums vary with the insurance plans you buy and the insurance company you are choosing.

3. What your plan covers?

Make sure that the plan you are buying gives you a total satisfaction and a peace of mind. You must know your insurance services will cover up in case any emergency happens. Look for the cover of doctor visits and hospital stays along with preventive care, and emergency room coverage etc.

4. Look for the bonus features with the plan

Look for the extras features your plan offers, like special discount programs, 24-hour support, wellness programs and programs to cover chronic illnesses. These extra features could give you a better service at very low prices putting fewer burdens on your pocket.
